Realness people may your New Year be packed with love, peace and goals accomplished from the heart. May your paths criss-cross with others sharing light, healing and respect of Mother Earth. No matter your beliefs or religion, may we all respect the common ground of tending to Mother earth. Mother Earth who provides us with the breath of life. I don't know mush about the film on Global warming, and other aspects of the destruction of Mother Earth, ex vice president of USA Al Gore made. I don't care about Gore's politics or hide and seek politicians play with the truth. I have heard some splendid reviews on the film from my friends around the world. People who don't have much belief or trust in American politics. I only know that Mother Earth is being smothered and her cycles altered by all the disrespect. Polar bear habitat melting like a mountain of warm butter. The snowy bears are dying out and are now an endangered species. Governments and people must live with Mother Earth as apart of her. She is a living breathing being and spirit. Mother Earth is not some kind of inanimate object to manipulate, shape and abuse in hideous unfeeling and unhealing ways. Mother Earth has offered us and all of our ancestors life. No matter how we have treated each other. Yet being greedy we still abuse Mother Earth - we bore into her guts with hideous man made devices that only destroys Mother Earth's ability to sustain human life. Not only that we are taking down all the other beings - animals and plants that only seeks to live their lives, and perhaps other spirits and beings we know nothing about. People filling the skies with poisonous gasses, smoke and sprays that only clogs Mother Earths breathing and her balance with the other planets, and stars in the solar system, galaxy and universe. How long before Mother Earth looks like an empty Mars. She is a living breathing being.
PRISON DAY
I took it easy today and didn't have work, so I got some reading and writing in. I got a little flute playing in, in the art room. Although it is a non work day and holiday season prisoners who have yard can come and check out guitors. Early morning winter is too cold for me to play the flute outside because the wood that it is made of would split. I feel really good and connected to the Native American flute. At times some people and even the black birds, pigeons, crows and seagulls seem to like what I am playing. I now when I do play the flute everyday I feel a loss like something is missing inside. Sometimes I wish I could just get away somewhere under a tree alone with nature and just sit and close my eyes and flow with flute all day. As my sister and Grammy award winning flutist Mary Youngblood said when she came into teach flute class - just let go and go to that sacred place inside and " Feed the Fire". The fire of peace, love and realness. Something I learned in my own journey in the art of poetry is that I have to get out of the way, so that I can go to that sacred place inside and bring forth realness. On another note I have been lagging on my stretching, running and my strengthening exercise. I know what it is the holiday blues but that moment is almost over.
WRITING STUFF Both of my writing classes are still progressing well. Some of the guys in my classes are getting things published. Still waiting for the support and go ahead on poetry and prose anthology books. I need to write some colleges and other organizations to ask for assistance in creating and publishing the two books. I believe both books will happen. I am also still working on book I am doing with my mentor. Also writing article for two friends Krista and Tony who use their brilliance, heart and talents to bring light and a voice to the youth in New York Prison system especially the young girls housed in adult prisons, and also a voice to the people without voices in the Bronx, New York. Also I commend them both for the work they are doing to bring attention to the realness art coming from inside prisons across the country. So writing is still fun and real for me. I have a number of splendid books I am reading. I am still reading "The Source" by James A Michener for our book club. I am enjoying it and it is a long read and I am a slow pondering, savoring reader. I think I mentioned in my last newsletter the other books I am reading. Anyway reading is good for writing.
STAY REAL SECTION
This newsletter is dedicated especially to Peace G's Barbro who suggested I write again about Mother Earth and also to Annica, Lisen and Simon. i have some more to say on the subject. Some editors and other critics say they are tired of bands that speak of Mother Earth - nature, trees, flowers, birds, bees, butterflies and a host of other living beings. They say the human issue - the human condition, is more important than that of other beings that inhabit and share this planet. Yes, the critics say, the human issue is more important than Mother Earth. Is the human issue more important because the collective human ego is bigger than a ten solar mass sun which dwarfs the earth's sun. Some one must speak up, using human forms of communication, for other living beings. Man, are the ones destroying the planet and out of balance with Mother Earth's ways. The beings that have no human voice, speak to us in their own ways, ways that can be understood when the solar mass ego and greed are let go.
MANICURIST (for Barbro) There is a rose budding Just outside the window near a rosemary unwilling to bend who wants to pick and pluck it from it's niche? Mother Earth's her own Manicurist © Spoon Jackson 2007
YOUNG PEACE GANG SECTION ”The youth of today. Searching and hoping. Chose one thing. Just think and then let those words land on the paper. What would change and enrich this world of ours. The youth of day are surviving yet not with the eternity in our pockets. Generations are constant. Also our strength. But how do you keep yours?” - Louise
BIRD STUFF
Plants - Sara and others are doing fine and growing slowly, probably due to winter being here. The plants though inside may sleep some. I don't know, seems to me any living beings including plants can rest and sleep. Hey, who really knows for sure. The sky this morning was full of seagulls seemed like thousands. If I get out of the cell in time each morning I can see them filling the sky. Good morning world.
