Monthly letter 1, 2010

Realness people, may your new years be glorious and packed with love and growth unlimited. I am still soaring from the power of the six day revelation with poetry, music and song. Melissa Mitchell and friends brought into New Folsom prison. The end of 2009 and we were blessed and the vibes carried us to the sky, the sun, valleys and mountains. Thank you my sisters and brothers. But now we are on lockdown that has brought in 2010. This is day seven of lockdown. The local news said an officer was attacked by an inmate. no other details.

What stops wars or big and small conflicts is communication. No matter where you are; the middle coast, Europe, Africa, Asia, South or North America or here in California prison. I remember many ears ago an old school sergeant told me he could run this whole yard by himself, if it was full of old school prisoners. Communication is the key. Old school guards know how to talk with old school prisoners.

I don’t believe in knife or gun violence solves anything. People, regardless of what side of the walls they sleep on, if saw each other as humans first most conflicts will not happen. I hope the person injured recovers fully and that violence does not lend to more violence.

WRITING SECTION

Because of Californian state prison system abolishing all arts-in-corrections programs this month January 2010, I do not know the status of poetry and prose classes. We hope to still be allowed to run our creative work shops; music, book club, writing and visual arts. We work for free an it doesn’t cost the state a penny. If we do keep the art room our classes will be smaller and meet less. We are in a state of wait and see.

I am working on poems and articles. I started a poem Journal this year. I will write poems or poem thoughts in this Journal each day of 2010. If you are interested and participating in this poem a day project please write me snail mail, (regular mail) and we can exchange poems and I could make comments. it could be inspirational. Bird stuff

My new year or shall I say new season always began in spring. When I see the birds, bees, ants, grasses and the sky doing spring things, although some geese stay here the entire year, instead of flying south. The geese are well fed here, so I suppose, these Canadian geese see no need to travel back to Canada. Besides they are a part of nature, Mother Earth geese, and have the sky and the whole planet to hang out on.

One mother goose, although it is winter, she sits on a nest of eggs in between cell blocks five and six, not far from the electric fence. I imagine since she is a goose use to snowy winters, being here in this valley is just like spring or even an early summer up north in Canada or Alaska. What ever her reasons, I wish her and the eggs well. May they grow big and see sky’s I have never seen.
