The weather is cold and there is some light rain. I stand at 5:20 AM at the chow hall door looking out the window at the cats, making my sounds to let them know who I am. The cats look up at me in the window.
Hungry with no food around, and each time I make my sound, the cats come up to the door.
I stand there wondering: is there any way I can feed them something. Me, being inside the chow hall, and the cats being outside looking up at me. I pace back and forth in the chow hall, and do some leg work and some stretching. I stop at the window between each set, and watch the cats groom themselves. The only kitten left plays with the older cats.
At around 5:40, just before it’s time to set up the serving line, I think I can pour some milk through the door somehow. I get a box of milk, and do my cat call, and the milk seeps through the seam of the door. The cats sit there outside the door and lick up the whole box of milk.
I got a letter from my brother, Jan Jonsson, and a new brother, Professor Carl Johan Calleman who lives in a ecological community in northern Sweden. Carl spoke of something going down June 8, 2004, called “The Oneness Celebration,” oneness of all beings (info@onenesscelebration.com). Carl sent me some information I am studying on what and how this oneness celebration will come to pass based on the Mayan calendar. The celebration will take place June 6-8, 2004.
Both Carl and Jan want everyone to be apart of the oneness celebration, even those of us around the planet in prisons. They asked me to create some poems to be read by Jan at the celebration. The celebration is for everyone at the same moment to contribute their realness and love in their own way of communication.
Any time there is something recognizing that we are all one – unique but one race, one being with unique faces of expression, celebrating our oneness – I am there. Celebrating beyond religious, cultural, philosophical and color barriers. The peace gang and I are there.
I already have two poems in mind for the celebration. The world unified in thought, heart, dreams and meditation at noon, Central European time, which means 3 AM June 8th in California. We can let our hearts speak through love, peace and realness. Thoughts, especially heart thoughts, are one of the most powerful entities on the planet and we all know that, so why not join our thoughts to celebrate that beauty and love, that oneness?
I will be there. I hope people from around the world will join thoughts, like hands around the earth, celebrating and sharing what naturally comes up through love. And walking in our own shoes creating our oneness in unity.
Prison Stuff
There are a lot of changes going on in California prisons and hopefully some of these changes will be positive. There is a new governor in California, but who knows who is really pulling the strings when the puppet master is hidden by dark clouds? Change can be both positive and negative. So we will have to wait and see.
Writing Class
We have met a couple of times now and read some new poems and done our discussions of current events. We sent some poems out to a public radio poetry show. We read some Pablo Neruda. We have about six of his books. We discussed some technical poetry terms and how, if you want to write good political poetry, you must use the same poetry devices as when writing any poem. I remember Judith, my big sister and poetry mentor, made a point of letting us know about ranting as opposed to a good political poem. The two guys in the group are still self-motivated, which is cool.
Cat and Bird Stuff
Today I noticed there were no cats outside in their feeding spot by the kitchen door, even though there was a lot of food out there. It did not take me long to figure out that it daylight savings time was over and that the cats had no vision, no concept, of daylight savings time. Knowing that one cannot roll the sun back or forward and block it from rising and setting, as the sun has always done in tune with the moon and other spheres. The cats know you cannot make the pull of the moon and the rhythm of the sun and earth to cycle some other way. The sun will rise the next day, as it has always done. The cats looked for the food at the same time and rhythm as always.
Maybe, after awhile, the cats will adjust their routes around their territory to appear later on to enjoy the food and milk offerings.
I have not forgotten my bird friends. I watch them still and feed them every day, mainly in the workout area now just in front of the chow hall. The sparrows and blackbirds feel more secure inside the chain link fence that surrounds the workout area and the benches inside the area.
I stand at the kitchen window
trying to see through raindrops
watching blackbirds twist
up the tall metal light pole
Just above my head outside
on the razor wire I see
sparrows land
I wonder how many eyes
it takes to count the raindrops.
Closing Thoughts
I am sending a special hello to Aida of Norway and a what’s up to my little brother and first Peace G. member of Sweden. And I send a what’s happenin’ to my little brother, John Collazo Jr. of Fresno, California. I wish everyone a happy and growthful holiday season. I am enclosing my direct address at the prison.
